Perfect is a Myth
The hardest part of creating, is starting. . .
The first proverbial stroke on a brand new canvas.
I am the world’s best procrastinator. Not because I’m horrible at managing my time, but that’s part of it. It’s just that nothing ever comes close to the perfection I’ve dreamed up in my mind, because I’m obsessed with getting everything right. But, perfectionism paralyzes and stifles creation, and leaves many unfulfilled dreams, broken commitments, and “somedays” in its wake.
That’s why for my first post for Tiffany Chi Photography, I wanted to write a reminder for you, friend, and my future self (probably rereading this text for errors).
I would like to tell you that the painting I’ve posted for my first ever very important post for my Photography account is a piece from some fine art gallery that I’ve appropriated to symbolize the Sun and newness and that iridescence of the gold is reminiscent of rebirth and yadda yadda …
But the painting you see in this photo was actually done by an 18 month old. It was the first painting that Aimee, my daughter, had ever painted, and it was done in the garage, over some folded diaper boxes, in a Minnie Mouse pull up diaper, with a lot of spilled water, fingernails covered in dried up paint, and a sprint to the bathtub. Now, it’s hanging up on our living room wall. It’s a reminder for me that even though the process is messy and imperfect, in the end, it’s beautiful, and worth displaying.
But then I think about my daughter, and how I would never want her to feel ashamed of that beautiful messy painting she made. I would never want her to take it down because she was afraid of what others might think of it. I would want her to be proud, because she started something, and she made it beautiful, not perfect.
