Last month was the end of a chapter for me and Ellias, and I didn’t know how to process or talk about it until now. My last day breastfeeding Ellias was at 23.5 months. This image was taken a couple of weeks prior to our last days of nursing and unearths so many emotions in me.
I hadn’t planned to nurse for so long. From the beginning, the doctors said that I wouldn’t be able to exclusively breastfeed either of my children due to my self diagnosed breast hypoplasia and possible insufficient glandular tissue (IGT).
Yet, here we are: two children exclusively breastfed — healthy and happy.
And even now I still don’t have the adequate words of gratitude to describe what a blessing it has been to love them in this unique way. So I’m taking a moment to thank my body for the nourishment, relationship, and connection it has brought me with my children.
Ellias is probably our last child, and in many ways, the end of this chapter for us signals to me the end of his baby years. I know that he will always need me, but never again in the way that he did while he was nursing.
Motherhood can be so bittersweet in this way — don’t you think?
