There are moments in life that etch themselves into your heart forever—and being a volunteer photographer at Foster Love’s Disney Days was one of those moments for me. I am so grateful to have been able to witness the awe and wonder on these childrens’ faces as they experienced the magic of Disneyland for the first time in their lives!
Foster Love is a national nonprofit committed to transforming the way children experience foster care. Their mission is simple yet profound: to ensure that every child—regardless of the circumstances they’re born into—gets a chance at a happy, healthy childhood. They do this by providing resources, creating memorable experiences, and advocating for change on behalf of the foster community.
From new clothes and birthday boxes to scholarships and reunification events, Foster Love runs a range of programs that serve over 300,000 foster youth nationwide. Their work provides not only necessities but also the emotional support and memorable experiences every child deserves.
One staggering statistic that deeply moved me as a Orange County Baby and Family Photographer: over 75% of foster youth in the U.S. are separated from their siblings in placement — an often overlooked trauma that adds yet another layer of heartbreak to an already difficult experience. Foster Love is actively working to change that narrative.
The Disney Days program is one of Foster Love’s most heartwarming initiatives. It brings separated siblings together for a magical day at Disneyland. These children—who often haven’t seen their brothers or sisters in months or even years—get to laugh, hug, play, and simply be together again. It’s a chance to feel like a family again, if only for a day.
It’s not just a theme park day. It’s a healing experience, a rare moment of connection, and for many of these children, it’s their first time visiting Disneyland, and sometimes, their first real moment of pure childhood joy.
As an orange county baby and family photographer who deeply believes in capturing meaningful moments, being part of Disney Days allowed me to do something truly special. I got to offer my services to children who rarely get to enjoy the carefree magic of childhood. To witness their joy, to photograph their reunions, and to preserve those moments of connection was an honor I’ll carry with me forever. These are children who often don’t get to just be kids. Many of them have experienced more hardship than most of us will in a lifetime. To be able to offer them a piece of a magical, carefree childhood—and to give them tangible memories of it—was a gift I’ll never forget.
I am so grateful to Foster Love for the work they do and for allowing me to be a small part of this incredible day. Their team pours so much care and heart into making sure every detail is handled with love and intention. Their dedication to bringing siblings together and advocating for real change in the foster care system is nothing short of inspiring.
This day wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible community of volunteers who poured their time, energy, and hearts into making Disney Days a reality.
A huge thank you to every volunteer who fundraised tirelessly to cover the cost of admission for the children, who spent the day supervising, guiding, and keeping them safe, and who showed up with so much compassion and care. Your dedication helped give these children a day of joy they will never forget.
To all the kids I met that day—you are brave, beautiful, and so loved. Thank you for letting me see your joy, and for reminding me of the magic that lives in the simplest moments.
