Being invited to reflect on my personal journey as both a photographer and creative entrepreneur was such a meaningful experience. The article gave me space to open up about my story — the challenges, the lessons, and the ways I’ve grown along the way.

Why I Chose to Share My Story

As many of you know, my work as a maternity, newborn, baby and family photographer is about so much more than just taking pictures. It’s about storytelling, connection, and legacy. I believe that the way we live and the way we document life are deeply intertwined. Sharing my own journey was important because I want my clients and community to see not only the finished artwork I create but also the heart and life experiences behind it.

Some of the Lessons I’ve Learned

The Bold Journey feature touched on a few themes that feel central to my life and work:

• Embracing vulnerability — I’ve learned that being honest about struggles and doubts can actually bring people closer and deepen trust, both in art and in relationships.
• Persistence through uncertainty — My path hasn’t always been linear or comfortable. Continuing to show up, even when outcomes weren’t guaranteed, has been a huge part of my growth.
• Balancing artistry and business — Building a sustainable creative business requires both heart and structure. I’ve had to learn how to honor my artistic vision while also protecting my time, energy, and livelihood.
• Community matters — None of this happens in isolation. I’m so grateful for mentors, peers, and clients who have shaped my journey.
• Continual reflection — I’ve discovered that success is less about arriving at a destination and more about evolving, checking in with myself, and staying aligned with my values.

How This Shapes My Work Today

These lessons directly influence the way I approach photography. When I photograph a maternity session, a newborn in those first fleeting days, or a family gathered together, I’m not just focused on the technical side. I’m present, attentive, and deeply aware that every image will carry meaning long after the moment has passed.

That’s why my work emphasizes natural light, timeless aesthetics, and heirloom artwork. I want the families I serve to feel that same sense of connection, honesty, and legacy in every photograph.
