This Session could not come during a more opportune season, as every time I look through these photographs, my heart swells, and I am reminded of how grateful I am for the subjects within them.
I first met Karen and Jon during my first year as an art student at UCLA and our friendship developed as we became part of the same Christian Community on campus.
Years later, I handed Karen tissues as she stood at the altar and married the love of her life. I remember sitting on my bed in my apartment in Paris when Karen announced to me over the phone that they were pregnant with their daughter, Esther. I visited them when she was days old. They didn’t know, but I was already 11 weeks pregnant with my daughter Aimee at the time!
Both of our daughters were my flower girls at my own wedding, and now they still sing and play and twirl together, calling each other sisters.
Our sons were born two days apart (this was honestly not planned), and there were many nights we were awake texting and praying as we nursed or tried to bounce the boys to sleep.
This family means so much to me, because I consider them to be a part of my own. I’ve watched Esther and Daniel grow — held them as babies, and love them as my own.
Karen and Jon unconditionally love and care for not only their family, but everyone around them. They embody selflessness, generosity, light, and hope with abandon. I am so grateful for their friendship and their presence in my life, and I tell Karen almost monthly that I don’t know what I’d do without her.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the privilege of capturing these fleeting moments with your family, and for loving me and my family time and time and time again.
