The Story Behind Tiffany Chi Photography: Creating Fine Art Portraits That Become Family Heirlooms

Orange County Fine Art Portrait Photographer Feature | Tiffany Chi Photography

Recently, I had the honor of being featured in Voyage LA, where I shared a glimpse into my journey as a photographer, artist, and business owner. While the interview touched on many milestones, it reminded me that behind every portrait session is a much deeper story—one that has shaped the way I approach every family who steps into my studio.

Photography has always been about more than beautiful images for me. It’s about preserving the moments that quietly become the foundation of our lives.

From Artist to Photographer

Long before I ever photographed a newborn or guided an expectant mother through a maternity session, I studied fine art at UCLA. Those years taught me to see light, composition, and emotion not simply as technical elements, but as tools for telling meaningful stories.

After graduation, my path took an unexpected turn. I moved to Paris to study at Ferrandi, one of France’s renowned culinary schools, where I trained as a French pastry chef. Living abroad, experiencing another culture, and meeting my husband there all shaped the artist—and the person—I would eventually become.

Although photography wasn’t my full-time career yet, creativity remained at the center of everything I did. Eventually, those experiences came together in a way I never expected, leading me to build Tiffany Chi Photography here in Orange County.

Why I Chose to Specialize in Maternity, Newborn, and Family Portraiture

Some of life’s most significant moments are also its most fleeting.

Pregnancy often feels endless while you’re living it, yet somehow passes in the blink of an eye. Newborns change almost daily during those first precious weeks. Toddlers suddenly become children, and before you know it, they’re starting school.

These seasons can be overwhelming while you’re in them. They’re filled with sleepless nights, endless to-do lists, and countless responsibilities. It’s understandable that documenting them sometimes falls to the bottom of the priority list.

Yet years later, these are often the moments families tell me they wish they had photographed more intentionally.

That realization is at the heart of every portrait experience I create.

More Than Digital Files

We live in a world where thousands of photographs sit on our phones, rarely revisited.

My philosophy has always been different.

I believe your family’s portraits deserve to live beyond a screen. They should become artwork that fills your home, albums that your children pull from the shelf years from now, and heirlooms that preserve your family’s story for future generations.

This is why every session is designed with the finished artwork in mind from the very beginning. Together, we create photographs intended not simply to be delivered, but to be displayed, held, and passed down.

Creating an Experience, Not Just a Session

Whether I’m photographing an expectant mother, welcoming a newborn into my natural light studio, or documenting a growing family, my goal is always the same: to create a calm, thoughtful experience where families can simply be present with one another.

From a carefully curated client wardrobe to gentle posing guidance and custom artwork design, every detail is intentionally planned to make the experience feel effortless.

The result is a collection of timeless portraits that reflect your family’s connection, rather than fleeting trends.

Serving Families Throughout Orange County and Southern California

My studio in Brea serves families throughout Orange County, Los Angeles County, and Southern California who value meaningful experiences and beautifully crafted heirloom artwork.

Many of the families I photograph return year after year—beginning with maternity portraits, celebrating the arrival of their newborn, and continuing to document the milestones that follow. Watching children grow and being invited back to preserve each new chapter is one of the greatest privileges of my work.
