#amplifymelanatedvoices
The world as we know it, is on fire. And at its epicenter, are black bodies. Black mothers, black children, black fathers, black families, black futures, black lives.
For far too long, black lives and lives of people of color have been sacrificed, buried in forgotten graves of oppression, violence, and trauma shoveled over them by the society of white privilege upon which this sinking foundation was built.
Safe from harm, murder, and unfounded accusation, the oppressors sang no requiems, held no vigils, turned away and wrung their hands, saying, “It is what it is.”
I have been at a loss for words. In a daze to be a witness to these times, vacillating between jaded cynicism and hopeful indigence. But my words aren’t what is important right now, nor whatever opinion I may hold.
The world is on fire, but to forge a new future, it MUST be tossed in the fire. We must rearrange it’s molecular structure. Douse it in flames.
I have only just launched my website and had many stories to continue to tell this week, but I have decided to take a step back from social media this week out of respect for the black community, and to give space and honor to black stories and black voices.
The #amplifymelanatedvoices movement was started by @blackandembodied and @jessicawilson.msrd.
Since January 2015, 1,276 Black lives have murdered by police, according to The Washington Post’s database tracking police shootings.
