Important conversations are happening, and need to continue happening. Some, for the first time are waking up from a deep sleep to the reality of systematic racial division and oppression against the Black Community. I know that I have.

I’ve taken a breath. I realize that I am lucky to still be breathing, because so many have had that luxury taken away from them. So many are still holding their breaths for fear of their own lives or the lives of their children.

So many have exhaled their last, or choked on it.

Maybe you’re tired of hearing about it.
Talking about it.
Reading about it.
Seeing the images.
Watching the news.

Yet think about how many have had to die in order for this to matter to you?

So, you may tire of this, but our Black brothers and sisters have never been able to REST. They have never been allowed to shut their eyes and fall asleep to the agony. They’re exhausted to face another day.

We need to press on, and keep breathing life for them. We need to be grateful for the air that fills our lungs another day, for those who have been robbed of theirs too soon.

These conversations need to keep happening in our homes, in our schools, in the streets, in our places of worship, in our communities, at our kitchen tables, and most of all, in our hearts.

We cannot forget this and once again fall asleep.
