Josephine and Anthony welcomed their new addition to the family, a little boy named Sebastian, in January of 2022. I had the pleasure of photographing the Capili family’s Outdoor Maternity Session as part of their Maternity & Newborn Collection with their active, curious, and adorable 2 year old daughter, Azelie.

One of the most wonderful benefits of booking a Collection with me is the opportunity for us to connect and get to know each other before I even pick up my camera. Photographing siblings can be a tough endeavor, especially when they are on the shy or sensitive side, and even moreso when there is a time constraint: for instance, during a Mini Session.

My approach to photographing littles is always gentle, slow, and playful. I want to capture them and your family in a natural and stress – free environment. Our children all have different temperaments, just like adults, and it is never my intention to force them into a pose or further upset them if they’re already in the middle of a meltdown.

Because I had taken the time to get to know the Capili Family and taken my time to interact with Azelie and her unique personality during their Maternity Session, when it came time to photograph their Newborn Session in my Studio, their normally shy daughter was all smiles and completely comfortable with me.

Subsequent planning for their Collection Newborn Session was an absolute breeze because we had already spoken in depth together about Wardrobe and styling. Josephine ended up borrowing a dress from my curated Studio Client Wardrobe, and we discussed Azelie and Anthony’s options together.

Anthony and Josephine married in 2017 and delivered Azelie in 2020 at the height of the COVID19 pandemic. As an expecting frontline medical professional working in the Emergency Room, it was a difficult time for Josephine and her family to manage the immense stress, anxiety, and workload.

With Sebastian arriving in January of 2022, Anthony and Josephine ended up welcoming both of their young children during the years-long pandemic, while also moving into a brand new home a couple of months later!

The pandemic has proven itself to be such a difficult time for so many families, with families expecting newborns or with young children suffering the most. New parents and young children need social interaction, reliable healthcare, and community support the most, and these are all essential elements that were not available.

In truth, we have yet to fully see the effects of these past few years of the COVID19 pandemic on us, and on our children born into it. What I do know for certain is that time continues to move forward, and our children continue to grow with each passing day, and if we don’t take the time and intention to capture their brief and fleeting childhood, we might forget these precious moments.
