You’ll often hear that the industry “standard” is 7 – 14 days after birth, which allows for those classically wrapped and bundled images of your baby because that’s when they are at their tiniest, sleepiest, and most flexible. And though I offer Fresh 48 Sessions that capture those early moments, Lifestyle Newborn Sessions can be captured up to 8 to 10 weeks old because they focus on your connection with your baby, and that can be captured at anytime!

That is why for my Newborn Sessions, I strive to capture not only your new little one, but more importantly, your relationship with this new life you’ve made. When I first had my son, Ellias, I had his Newborn Photography Session all planned out months in advance with a Newborn photographer. Unfortunately, life happens and not only did Ellias suffer from severe jaundice levels, but he also had extreme difficulty latching and feeding due to tongue tie and it was such a stressful and painful experience that I had to cancel his Newborn Session because the day of his scheduled Session coincided with the only day that the doctor had available to treat his tongue tie.

This photographer told me that she would be unable to photograph my new baby because she had no availability within the 14 day period, and didn’t offer future dates until he was 7 months old. I was devastated that I was missing the opportunity to document my very last baby in his newborn stage, I was filled with so much remorse.

That’s why I recommend scheduling your Newborn Session with me about a month after your baby’s estimated due date. The first 7 – 14 days are such a whirlwind of tears, sleepless nights, doctor’s appointments, lactation consulting, family visiting, and a postpartum body that is still recovering — not to mention the complications that can sometimes arise in the days directly following birth. Life happens, but that doesn’t mean you and your baby shouldn’t still be captured! I have spoken to so many mothers with grown children who have shared their regret of never taking the time to capture their children as infants, because once that season has passed, you can never have it back.

For all clients who have paid a retainer and reserved their dates, if you have had pregnancy or birth complications, I offer no – penalty and stress – free rescheduling.
